United Nations International Day

The United Nations is an acronym, it is an intergovernmental organization and one of the largest and most famous international organizations of the twentieth century, founded in 1945 after World War II, and the Charter of the United Nations set the purpose of its establishment to maintain international peace and security by taking effective collective measures to prevent and eliminate the dangers that threaten peace, and to the development of friendly relations among states on the basis of respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples and to promote and encourage respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion, in addition to serving as a center for coordinating the actions of states in achieving these common ends

The headquarters of the United Nations is located on international territory (domestic immunity) in New York City, with other main offices in Geneva, Nairobi, Vienna and The Hague.

The United Nations (successor to the League of Nations) was established with the aim of preventing future wars. On April 25, 1945, 50 nations met in San Francisco and held a conference to draft the Charter of the United Nations, which was adopted on June 25, 1945 and entered into force on October 24, 1945, the same date on which the United Nations began United work

The objectives of the organization in accordance with the Charter include maintaining international peace and security, preserving human rights, providing humanitarian assistance, promoting sustainable development, and upholding international law. The number of member states when the organization was established was 51, and with the accession of South Sudan in 2011, the number of member states in the organization has become 193 countries, representing almost all the sovereign countries in the world

Membership of the United Nations has grown significantly after widespread decolonization since the 1960s

Since then 80 former colonies have gained independence, including 11 Trust Territories and have remained under the control of the United Nations Trusteeship Council.

By the 1970s, the United Nations budget for economic and social development programs far exceeded spending on peacekeeping

The United Nations transformed and expanded its field operations after the end of the Cold War, undertaking a variety of complex tasks

The United Nations consists of six main organs: the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice, and the General Secretariat.

The United Nations system includes many specialized agencies, funds and programs such as the World Bank Group, the World Health Organization, the World Food Programme, UNESCO and UNICEF.

NGOs may also be granted consultative status with the Economic and Social Council and other agencies to participate in the work of the United Nations

The OFUQ ALSALAM ALDUWALI (OSD) Center – United Arab Emirates – Dubai, with efforts and in view of the humanitarian work carried out by the Center in a number of countries headed by Dr. Taghrid Zuhdi Mohamed, has been awarded the membership of the Economic and Social Council with the silver badge since March 18, 2022 with code No. 21417 and after doing many One of the humanitarian initiatives to serve refugees and the needy in many countries who have been exposed to various types of disasters, the center was awarded the golden badge on the occasion of the International Day of the United Nations, which falls on October 22, 2022

Dr. Taghrid Zuhdi Mohamed, founder and head of the center, noted that the center was, is, and will remain on the covenant it made to serve humanity away from interfering in the internal and political affairs of countries, not helping any terrorist organization (financing terrorism) or money laundering, and not participating in all acts that contradict With the principles of the United Nations, we are fully prepared to carry out all the tasks entrusted to us by the United Nations in humanitarian work
